The New VPN Service - Rumba

Rumba,  VPN service,  allows to easly connect to the Unversity networks without the need for downloading a client while providing  a stable connection.


 Rumba  is gradually replacing the Samba VPN service .


Recorded Instructions for Connecting via Rumba for Administrative Staff

 

Enter the site http://rumba.huji.ac.il

Enter your RA username with the format username%ra and click on Logon

Enter your either your RA password or OTP password. Click on Logon

Every user will receive a slightly different windows, depending on the privileges of your username.
Students and adminstrative staff can enter virtual terminals by clicking on MyPlace or entering a HUJI webpage that requires VPN from outside the university (such as the SAP Portal or MicroShop purchasing page) by opening a new tab in the browser that you used to connect via Rumba and enter the correct address. 
and those running programs that require a university license server  (SPSS, Matlab or Mathematica) can connect using the VPN Client.

Connecting to MyPlace – Administrative Staff 

 

MyPlace is a virtual desktop system that allows administrative staff to access administrative software and for students to remotely access all software found on public computers.  

To use MyPlace you will need to connect to the University networking via Rumba (The  Rumba service uses fewer computer and internet resources than the old Samba client)

Click on the MyPlace icon.

A window will open for entering details. Under username enter your AD username (same as savion  or your EKMD user).  Under password enter your AD password  (same as savion or your EKMD user )  and under domain enter CC (or EKMD if you like to connect your EKMD drives) . When finished, click Logon.

Click on Open Vmware Horizon Client

You are now connected to the virtual terminal with all the necessary software to work from home, including CC shared drives.

EKMD users can click on "EKMD Drive Mapping" . After entering your EKMD code and password you will see your EKMD drives on My Computer.

To exit your virtual terminal simply close your browser. For more information on MyPlace

In the upper portion of the page where it is written  enter and internal resource enter mydesktop.huji.ac.il

Clicking the arrow will take you to a virtual machine designed for EKMD account holders. This machine allows access to H: and P: drives and editing the files from home.

Rumba- Working with a Client

The Rumba client can be used in place of the Samba client to  perform all operations that require a VPN client (for example working on a SAP GUI installed on your computer),

To use click on VPN Client.

Click Download and start installing the software.

At the end of the installation, return to the Rumba website and click on VPN Client again.

Once clicked, a window will pop up asking you if you want to open the software. Click on Open F5 Networks VPN

Wait for the connection process to finish. You will see a green Connect message when you are successful. 

When you have finished working, press the Disconnect button.
